Guiding in the Tonbridge area (Leigh to East Peckham and all points
in between!) is very popular and very active. There are units for all
ages participating in the full Guiding programme. They have lots of fun
in their weekly meetings, take part in Town wide parades and go away on
camps, holidays and sleepovers.
Rainbows are for girls aged 5 –
7yrs old, Brownies for girls aged 7 – 10 years old, Guides for girls
aged 10 – 14yrs old and Rangers / Senior Section for girls aged 14+.
All
the units in the area are full with long waiting lists so you will need
to apply for a place well before your daughter reaches the joining age.
In order to find a unit near to your home please visit the
GirlGuiding UK website: www.girlguiding.org.uk/get_involved.aspx and
register your daughter. You will then be able to select a unit that
suits you and an email will be sent to the Leader of that unit who will
get in touch with you. Alternatively call Karen Cox – Division
Commissioner - 01892 520935
Adults
There are lots of opportunities to join Guiding as young person or adult.
Young Leaders are girls aged 16 – 18 who help in a local unit. You can work on the leadership qualification if you wish.
Leaders
and Assistant leaders are women aged 18+ who run the weekly meetings as
part of a team. New Leaders complete the Leadership Qualification
which is a modular ‘on the job’ qualification providing the knowledge
and skills to run a successful unit. After completing the scheme Leaders
can run a unit or help in a unit as an assistant leader.
Unit
helpers are men or women aged 18+ who help every week or every other
week at meetings. There is no qualification to complete and how much you
want to get involved is up to you. Some unit helpers plan some
activities, others just come to help with whatever the leadership team
has planned.
Occasional helpers are exactly that! Maybe you have
skill such as art and craft, music, dance, woodwork, map reading etc
that you would like to pass onto the girls. Perhaps you can help with
the unit accounts or run a website. Perhaps you would be able to help at
camps in the holidays but not be at meetings during the term or shift
work means you can only help at a few meetings. All help will be
gratefully received!!
There are many opportunities for adults to
get involved in Guiding in the Tonbridge area. Please go to
www.girlguiding.org.uk/get_involved.aspx to register your interest, or
call Karen Cox – Division Commissioner – on 01892 520935
